There is a big new trend going on in Learning & Management: Companies want to put their employees in charge of their own learning. This is actually a great idea.
Each one of us has a unique mix of skills – as well as our own personal competence gaps: Why should all employees be forced to complete specific online training, if it is only relevant for some of them?
Each employee is unique. Would you like your corporate learning solution to reflect this? If you do, you have probably asked yourself at least one of these questions:
How do we ensure that employees learn the skills our business really needs?
How do we ensure that employees complete their training?
How do we make sure that they really learn new skills?
Time for a new learning mindset: Free to pick and choose
In Learningbank we suggest that companies adapt a new learning mindset for employees: One that offers a lot of freedom. And within this mindset, content, quizzes, etc. are available. During the one2one dialogue, employee and leader can create an individual development plan for the employee, which focuses on acquiring certificates instead of completing several digital learning modules.
Quizzes should be fun: Treat it like a game (…gamification of course!)
The goal should be to provide the employees a specific set of skills, so they can create value for their employer. Quizzes are a great way of verifying that the employees have acquired the skill.
However, if one employee does not need the training to pass the quiz, then by all means: Let him skip it! My point is that quizzing is a way of learning, and repeating what you know, but have forgotten. It does not matter how many times you need to take the quiz in order to pass it if each attempt provides a learning outcome based on reflections.
In Learningbank we can do this based on features in the LMS platform we offer. So if you want to check it out for yourself, feel free to give us a call or book a demo. And we will be happy to have a dialogue about your organization’s unique learning needs.
